Wray sets state swimming record

Twelve-year-old Kari Wray of Anchorage claimed 11th place in the 400 individual medley at the International Age Group Invitational swim meet in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., setting a state age-group record in the process.

Wray's time of 5 minutes, 38.93 seconds sliced more than 10 seconds off the old state mark of 5:50.84.

Since March 21, Wray has broken nine Alaska age-group individual records and been a member of two record-setting relay teams.

In that span, she and her Aurora Swim Team teammates have set 19 state age-group records. Matt Summers (15-16 and open) set four individual marks and helped set one relay record and Jarod O'Brien set two 10-and-under individual records. The club also set a relay record in the 13-14 boys age-group.
