South Africa will host the 2010 FIFA World Cup of football, or what we Americans call soccer, from June 11 to July 11. The host cities throughout the country offer much to see and do before and after the games. Each city has a unique vibe and provide perspectives to this diverse country.

Johannesburg is the largest city in South Africa. Known as Jo'burg, or 'Jozi' to the locals, it has played center stage to Apartheid and its eventual end under Nelson Mandela in 1994. The city prides itself on being the economic and cultural center of South Africa.

Set on a peninsula where the Indian and Atlantic oceans converge, Cape Town is Africa's most popular tourist destination. The impressive Table Mountain sit as a back drop to the city of over three million and white sandy beaches stretch in front of it.

Durban, the third largest city is South Africa, is known for the popular stretch of beachfront called "The Golden Mile." The golden sands of the Mile are lined with hotels, casinos, restaurants and nightclubs. It is also a popular destination for sunbathers and surfers and has many family friendly activities.

Bloemfontein is located in the middle of South Africa, and is known as the "City of Roses." A rose festival is held annually to celebrate the abundant flower. Although it may not have the buzz of a big city, this green oasis is filled with gardens, a nature preserve, Orchid House and many interesting museums.
