JUNEAU -- A Juneau duo has been charged with assault following an attack with an ice scraper and a metal-tipped stick Monday afternoon, according to Juneau police.
Officers were called to an apartment on Delta Drive to multiple reports of a half-dozen people being involved in the melee, Sgt. David Campbell said. Police determined a man and woman who lived at the apartment had been outside with several children when a black Chevrolet sedan sped into the area, Campbell said.
The driver of the sedan, later identified as Meaghan Coyle, 23, got out and began screaming at the woman about money, then attacked with an ice scraper found in the area, Campbell said. Coyle's passenger, Michael Travis Miller, 30, then grabbed a metal-tipped stick about a foot-and-a-half long and began hitting the victim in the torso, Campbell said.
The victim's male companion and several neighbors intervened and took the weapon away from Miller. At some point during the altercation, a whiffle-ball bat turned into a weapon as well, Campbell said.
Coyle and Miller sped off but were arrested about a mile away on Glacier Spur Road as they fled the scene. The 22-year-old victim had multiple bruises on her body but declined medical assistance, Campbell said.
The ice scraper, stick and plastic baseball bat were seized as evidence. Coyle was charged with fourth-degree assault. Miller was charged with third-degree assault.
Both were booked into jail at Lemon Creek Correctional Center.
