State law requires that studded tires be removed from vehicles by Saturday. The law prohibits studded tires between May 1 and Sept. 15 north of 60 degrees latitude, which includes Anchorage and Mat-Su.
Vehicles south of that latitude -- including Homer, Kodiak and Southeast -- normally may not have studded tires starting on April 15, but due to spring snows the state extended that date to May 1 as well.
Driving with studded tires when they are prohibited is punishable by a $50 fine.
