• Jon Hughes allowed two hits in eight innings and struck out six Wednesday night to spearhead the Matt-Su Miners' 2-0 defeat of the Peninsula Oilers at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.

Matt Wessinger scored from third base on a wild pitch and Matt Ozanne's fielder's choice plated pinch-runner Matt Applegate.

• The Athletes in Action Fire scored two runs in the eighth inning Wednesday to complete a comeback and defeat the Anchorage Bucs 6-5 at Growden Memorial Park in Fairbanks.

Chadd Fromm pitched 2 2/3 innings of work for the win, retiring seven of the 11 batters he faced.

Down 5-4 in the eighth, Colby Everett scored from second base off Ryan Mathews' RBI single. Three batters later, Tyler Windall hit into a fielder's choice, bringing Mathews home from third for the go-ahead run.
