Alaskans contributing

Alaskans continued to play well at the Latin Baseball Classic in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Team USA split two games Friday, good enough to earn a spot in a semifinal today.

Tyler Thompson of Dimond scored two runs and Garrett Brown of Service knocked in two runs in Team USA's first game, but the U-16 team lost when the Born To Play team from the Dominican Republic scored five runs in the bottom of the final inning.

In the second game, Brown pitched for a win after entering a tied game in the third inning. The Alaska players made several contributions to the win. Thompson went 1 for 1 and scored three runs, and highlights in the final inning included Nick Curtis of South hitting a single, Cory Clevenger of Dimond drilling an RBI double, and Sheldon Rouzan of Dimond, who was called up from the U-15 team to replace an injured player, throwing out a runner attempting to steal second base.
