The Galapagos Islands form a volcanic archipelago off the coast of Ecuador, in the Pacific Ocean. Although the islands lie on the equator, currents of cold water keep the temperatures in the 70s for most of the year. Many common species of animals, such as goats, were introduced to the islands by pirates, but Galapagos is known for its unique indigenous creatures such as the giant tortoise, marine iguanas, blue-footed boobies, penguins and albatrosses. A trip to these islands will inspire the nature lover in everyone.

Although there are dive sites for beginners, scuba diving around the island is best suited for the more experienced diver. Strong, unpredictable currents of cold water and sharp volcanic rocks can be hazardous. But the beauty of this underwater world and the chance to swim with hammerhead sharks and sea turtles make this a risk worthy experience.

"Exploring the undersea is a major part of the Galapagos experience, where cold and warm waters intermingle and where fur sea lions, sea turtles, dolphins, whales and tame reef sharks thrive. We provide complimentary snorkeling equipment, wet suits and kayaks." -- www.ecoventura. com
