West grad in running for top tight end award

University of Idaho senior tight end and 2006 West High graduate Daniel Hardy, on Monday was named one of eight semifinalists for the 2010 John Mackey award, given each year to the most outstanding tight end in Division I-A college football.

Hardy has made 32 receptions for 545 yards and one touchdown in eight starts this season. Other semifinalists include Michael Egnew of Missouri, Lance Kendricks of Wisconsin and Allen Reisner of Iowa.

Previous winners of the award, established in 2001, include Dallas Clark of Iowa in 2002, Heath Miller of Virginia in 2004 and Aaron Hernandez of Florida in 2009.
