Fatal accident on Seward Highway snarls traffic

Traffic on the Seward Highway is snarled tonight due to wreck near Mile 110, Alaska State Troopers say. One person is dead in the accident. A second person was taken to an Anchorage hospital for treatment, said trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen.

The accident occurred near Beluga Point and involved two vehicles. A southbound vehicle crossed the center line and crashed into a northbound vehicle, Ipsen said. She wasn't sure how many people were in the vehicles.

Traffic is moving intermittently through the accident scene, but it's slow and likely will remain so for a couple more hours, Ipsen said at 7:30 p.m.
