2011 Fur Rondy: Competitive snowball fights!

Get your game faces on before you read this thoroughly awesome news, Alaska ... According to KTVA-TV, Anchorage's 2011 Fur Rondy will introduce a new winter sport: Yukigassen. Basically, Yukigassen is a competitive snowball fight -- with rules and everything -- sort of a combination between snowball fighting and "capture the flag." Two teams get a set number of pre-made snowballs each and try to pelt each other into submission or capture the opposition's flag. Referees can even call fouls (so apparently there's no whitewashing allowed). The sport has spread to winter nations around the world already, but the event at 2011's Fur Rondy will be the first time it has been played (officially sanctioned, that is) on US soil. Watch much more, here. And, not to be a wet blanket or anything, but before anyone starts having fantasies about Alaska someday competing against the world's best Yukigassen teams, KTVA's report also reveals an embarrassing skill deficit.
