Tyler Aklestad earns $1,000 for snowmachine victory

Iron Dog Veteran Tyler Aklestad ripped off a scorching time of 2 hours, 21 minutes, 38 seconds on Saturday to earn $1,000 and win the AMMC/WRL Eureka Lodge K100 X-Country snowmobile race. Aklestad's 600cc Ski-Doo also laid down the fastest lap on the rugged 26.5-mile trail in Eureka that left several racers with busted shocks and parts.

Chad Gueco was second in 2:34:29 on an Arctic Cat Sno Pro 600, earning $567. Scott Faeo's 2:40:34 time was worth $384.

Dani Levine captured the open women's class on her Polaris Edge 600cc snowmachine to earn $500 with a time of 1:32:12. Adrianne Athanas of Palmer, a local MotoX racer, was second in 1:38:19 in her first snowmcachine race, earning $192.

Other winners:

• Adam Vanzant of Anchorage won the semi pro race on his 2011 Polaris IQ 600

• Liam Whiteman won the Junior Fan class;

• Jacob Whiteman won the Junior Liquid class.
