UAA blueliner earns WCHA honor

UAA junior defenseman Curtis Leinweber, whose three points and plus-5 rating helped the Seawolves sweep visiting Michigan Tech last week, shares this week's Western Collegiate Hockey Association Defensive Player of the Week award.

Leinweber furnished his first career two-goal game, including his first short-handed strike, in Friday's 4-1 win over the Huskies and added a helper in Saturday's 4-2 win.

Leinweber in the series was on the ice for four UAA goals at even strength and for his shortie, and was not on the ice for any Michigan Tech goal.

Leinweber leads UAA defensemen in goals and points with 4-6--10 totals in 24 games, and leads all Seawolves in plus-minus at plus-7.

UAA (10-13-3, 9-11-2 WCHA), winner of three straight games, travels this week to take on No. 5-ranked North Dakota (19-8-2, 14-6-0 WCHA) in a league series in Grand Forks.

The Seawolves and Fighting Sioux opened the season in UAA's Kendall Hockey Classic, with the Seawolves roaring back to forge a 5-5 tie after trailing 5-1 halfway through the game at Sullivan Arena.
