Johansson, Rohde are all-West basketball second-teamers

Two strong post players who helped the UAA men's and women's basketball teams into the NCAA Division II playoffs earned second-team all-West Region honors Wednesday.

Hanna Johansson, the 6-foot-2 junior forward who anchors a strong inside game for the UAA women, made the team. So did Taylor Rohde, the 6-9 junior forward for the men's team.

Johansson, the team's leading scorer (13.2 ppg) and rebounder (6.6 per game), was one of two Great Northwest Athletic Conference players to make the 10-woman team. The other was first-team selection Amanda Dunbar, star guard for Western Washington who is the GNAC Player of the Year.

Rohde leads the UAA men with 16.5 points and 6.7 rebounds. He was one of five GNAC players who made the 11-man team. Gaining first-team honors were Parrish West of UAF, Blake Poole of Saint Martin's and Jamar Berry of Central Washington. Joining Rohde on the second team was Chris Sprinker of Central Washington.

Both UAA teams play in the NCAA West Region tournament Friday.

The women (26-6) play Western Washington (26-3) at 4:30 p.m. AST in an eight-team tournament in Pomona, Calif. The men (23-9) meet Humboldt State (26-3) at 11 a.m. AST in Ellensburg, Wash.

Humboldt State boasts the West Region player of the year Brian Morris, a 6-9 forward.
