Two snowmachiners rescued after Hatcher Pass mishap

Two snowmachiners in the Hatcher Pass area were rescued late Saturday night by a search and rescue group after one got stuck and the other called for help, Alaska State Troopers report.

Randy G. Marsh called 911 around 9:21 p.m. The 58-year-old said he and his friend, Roger Hackett, 63, were snowmachining on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass and that Hackett became stuck in a canyon, the report said. They left their snowmachines and were walking out when they become separated. Troopers launched Helo 1. A snowmachine search and rescue group went to help as did troopers from Talkeetna, according to troopers.

The snowmachine search and rescue group found the men in the Lucky Shot Gold Mine area just before midnight.

They were taken back to the Hatcher Pass parking area. Neither man needed medical attention, the trooper report said. Both men are from Anchorage.
