Kung wins giant slalom at Alyeska

Kyle Kung's winning streak continued with a victory in the men's giant slalom at the FIS Spring Tech Series at Alyeska Ski Resort on Saturday.

Kung, who won the slalom races on Thursday and Friday, turned in the fastest times on both giant slalom runs for a total time of 1:40.00. UAA skiers Chris Kollenborg and Cam Brewington finished second and third. Alex Erickson was the top Alaska junior, finishing ninth.

Using a dominant first run, Far West J-1 skier Lena Andrews won the women's giant slalom, edging East Division skiers Lena Rowland and Delainey Ackerman. UAA's Kayla Fry, who sat in third after the first run, finished in fourth. The top Alaska junior was first-year J-2 racer Sarah Lundgren in ninth place.

In a United States Ski Association race for J-3, J-4 and J-5 skiers, J-3 racer McGuire Osborn won the boys giant slalom and J-3 skier Sydney Henegan won the girls giant slalom.

Racing concludes at Alyeska today with a giant slalom at 11:15 a.m.

Christianson 13th at U.S. nationals

Tommy Ford of Bend, Ore., and Julia Mancuso of Squaw Valley, Calif., both struck gold for a second time Saturday at the U.S. Alpine National Championships in Winter Park, Colo.

Ford, who won the men's giant slalom Wednesday, won the super-G title with a run of 1 minute, 10.10 seconds. Anchorage's Charles Christianson finished 13th in 1:11.67 for his second top-15 result in as many races.

Mancuso, who won the women's GS Thursday, ruled Saturday's super-G in 1:13.34 for her 13th career title.
