West stranded the potential tying run at third base in the final inning Monday night, giving East a thrilling 8-7 Cook Inlet Conference softball victory at Albrecht Fields. East scored the winning run without the benefit of a hit in the top of the sixth. Terra Sang-Patone was hit by a pitch to reach base, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by winning pitcher Sydney Smith, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch.
Devonee Troutman's leadoff double gave West a chance to tie it in the bottom half of the inning. A groundout put Troutman on third base, where she remained thanks to a popup and a strikeout.
Troutman doubled in all three of her at-bats to lead the Eagles. Sarah Sauerbrey scored twice and was 2 for 3 with a double for the T-birds, who jumped to a 5-0 lead in a first inning highlighted by Allison Schoenborn's leadoff homer.
