Police identify young man found dead Thursday morning

Police have identified the man they say was found dead under suspicious circumstances Thursday inside a home off Lore Road in Anchorage as 20-year-old Timothy Nickoli.

Nickoli, an Anchorage resident, had been visiting the home the night before, police said. Detectives on Thursday interviewed some of the people who were at the house with him and are searching for others, said homicide unit chief Slav Markiewicz.

"We know that there were several people at the residence last night. We are still in the process of looking for them and doing interviews," Markiewicz said. Detectives are still trying to determine the nature of the gathering, he said.

Someone in the home at 7640 Little Bend Circle, a neighborhood west of Lake Otis Parkway, called police just after 5 a.m. and reported Nickoli was not breathing, police said. Detectives are investigating the case as a suspicious death, but Markiewicz declined to say why.

Police declined to talk about the apparent cause of death. An autopsy is planned for today.

"We know that he was alive yesterday and that he came to the residence and that he was found dead this morning," Markiewicz said.

Nickoli was born in Dillingham and later lived in the village of St. Michael, he once told friends on a MySpace page that has been inactive in recent months.

Nickoli posted a note on Facebook earlier this week saying he was in "UNK" -- often a reference to the village of Unalakleet -- but heading to Anchorage.

"Feels good to be back!," he wrote at 4 p.m. Wednesday.
