2011 Miss Alaska and Teen are chosen

Katy Lovegreen of Anchorage was named the 2011 Miss Alaska in the annual pageant sponsored by the Miss Alaska Scholarship Foundation in UAA's Wendy Williamson Auditorium June 25.

Lovegreen, 21, performed particularly well in the interview and onstage question segments of the competition. In the talent portion she performed a self-choreographed modern dance. She hopes to become an elementary school teacher.

Runners-up included:

1. Julia Marstall, 20, Anchorage

2. Eden Barrington, 23, Anchorage

3. Veronica Temple, 17, Eagle River

4. Tiffany Hancock, 23, Anchorage.

Hannah Rockwell, 17, of Eagle River was selected as Miss Alaska's Outstanding Teen, 2011. Like Lovegreen, she had her strongest showings in the interview and question segments. Her ambition is to become a surgeon.

Makayla Wong, 15, of Clam Gulch was the first runner-up in the Outstanding Teen competition. Sabrina Willis, 17, of Anchorage was second runner-up.

Barrington and Willis were named Miss Congeniality in their respective divisions. Barrington and Wong prevailed in the talent competitions and Wong also picked up the "Crowd Pleaser" award.
