Anchorage police said Friday they're looking for a man accused of assaulting his girlfriend Tuesday at an apartment in Spenard.

Andrea Lavelle Vickers, 22, grabbed the woman by her throat, dragged her out of the Dorbrandt Street dwelling and beat her face with a pistol, according to police department spokeswoman Anita Shell.

Vickers -- whose first name is pronounced "Andre" -- is a violent convicted felon, police said.

Members of the department's Special Assignments Unit, composed mostly of tactically trained SWAT officers, have been looking for Vickers, Shell said.

"He carries multiple weapons on him and he's not afraid to use 'em," Shell said.

According to police, Vickers stands 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighs 175 pounds and is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone who sees Vickers should not try to apprehend him, police said.

Information on Vickers' whereabouts can be called in to police at 786-8900. Anonymous tips can be delivered to Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP or anchoragecrimestoppers.com.
