The Port of Anchorage is inviting the public for tours today from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The port is providing a free hot dog lunch and hour-long tours, while the Alaska Railroad is offering free parking at its corporate headquarters. The event begins a program of free port tours every Sunday until Aug. 28. One special event today is the staging of vehicles from the 1st Stryker Brigade, 25th Infantry Division, of Fort Wainwright onto a cargo vessel for transport to Afghanistan. The operation can be observed from the third floor of the port administration building.
Free parking is available at railroad headquarters at 327 W. Ship Creek Ave., where shuttle buses will take people to the nearby port.
