Say aloha to football tonight when the Service Cougars play a team from Hawaii in the nation's first game of the high school season.
Service's game against the Mighty Mules of Leilehua High School will air live at 8 p.m. on GCI cable Channel 1. GCI is picking up the game from OC16, a Hawaii network that is airing the game in high definition, although GCI viewers won't see the high-def version.
The game is being called the Fire and Ice Bowl. It pits top teams from each state -- Service was the runner-up in last year's Alaska large-schools playoffs and Leilehua was a semifinalist in Hawaii's Division I playoffs.
Carrie Brown of GCI said the game is the only high school game scheduled to be televised this season, although it's willing to expand the schedule if it's financially feasible.
"We're looking into it," she said. "We have somebody willing to produce them and we have a way to get (the signal) from the stadium. It's just a matter of, can we get the money together?"
