Troopers said Sunday that efforts to locate a man who disappeared early Friday from a fishing boat in Chignik Lagoon have been unsuccessful. Troopers believe he fell overboard in the lagoon and was swept out to sea.
Moses Kosbruk Jr., 43 of Perryville, was on the fishing vessel Antoinette Renee. The boat is a commercial fishing vessel but the season is over so the crew was using it for their personal use, trooper spokeswoman Beth Ipsen said.
Early Friday, the crew was cleaning their catch of sockeye salmon and drinking after a day of fishing, Ipsen said. Kosbruk was last seen around 3 a.m. Friday. Around 5 p.m., troopers received a report he was missing.
The Coast Guard searched by helicopter Friday evening and again on Saturday. Troopers joined in the search. Numerous fishing boats also were out looking for Kosbruk.
Troopers say they believe alcohol was a factor in his disappearance.
Chignik Lagoon is on the Alaska Peninsula.
