The UAA hockey team is ranked ninth on the Western Collegiate Hockey Association's preseason media poll released Tuesday, the same spot the Seawolves finished in the standings last season. Top-ranked Denver University received 16 first-place votes. Denver also boasts the preseason pick for WCHA player of the year in sophomore forward Jason Zucker. UAA forward Sam Mellor received votes as a potential rookie of the year.
North Dakota, last season's league winner and tournament champion, is ranked third behind Colorado College. Defending national champion Minnesota Duluth is ranked fifth.
