Do you recognize these men?

In researching Wednesday's article on the Juneteenth Alaska Alcan Highway Celebration, I came across this picture of men who worked on the road.

Unlike most historic photos of the project, it shows faces with some clarity. What caught my attention is that I'm more than 50 percent certain that I know one of them -- or knew him. He's passed now and I need to do a lot more research before jumping to conclusions.

But perhaps others in our readership will be able to tell us the names of these otherwise unidentified soldiers.

The celebration wraps up today with a free concert at the Anchorage Juneteenth Jazz and Arts Festival. There will be an opening at 6 p.m. and music starting at 7 p.m. at Loussac Library. Ron Myers -- a noted jazz pianist and trumpeter as well as head of the National Juneteenth Holiday Campaign -- will be joined by Nelson Felix, Rick Zelinski, Ray Booker and John Damberg.
