WILLOW -- A man was shot and killed during a fight Sunday night north of Willow, Alaska State Troopers said.
The confrontation was first reported at 8:41 p.m. at a home on Susitna Drive, near Mile 91 Parks Highway, troopers said. Investigators believe two men were fighting at the home when one produced a small-caliber pistol.
The man fired a single shot, apparently trying to put a stop to the assault, troopers said.
The gunshot struck the other man, 61-year-old Ronald D. Gunter, in the head, killing him, according to a trooper report. Prosecutors reviewed the case and made a preliminary decision not to arrest the suspected shooter, whom troopers have not publicly identified.
The investigation continues.
