Kenai's Allie Ostrander and Seward's Miles Knotek were each named Alaska's Gatorade cross-country runner of the year, becoming the first athletes from their respective schools to win the award.
Ostrander won the Region III girls championship last season, clocking 18 minutes, 7 seconds in the 5-kilometer race. The 5-foot freshman also set course records in winning the Skyview Invitational, Homer Invitational, Colony Invitational and Palmer Invitational.
Knotek, a 5-10 junior, won the Class 1-2-3A boys state championship last season, finishing the 5-K race in 16:23. Knotek also won the Region III championship meet, the Seward Invitational, the Nikiski Class Races and the ACS Class Challenge.
