South 5, Service 3 in boys hockey

Five different players notched goals for South on Saturday, and the Wolverines slipped past Service 5-3 in a Cook Inlet Conference boys hockey game at Ben Boeke Arena. Service got on the board first, taking a 2-0 lead in the second period on goals from Jeremy Smith and Greg Johnson. The lead didn't survive to the end of the period, however, as Steven Orizotti, Trevor Geerin and Lucas Nokelby all scored to give the Wolverines a 3-2 lead.

Jared Cruz extended South's lead to 4-2 early in the third period, but Service's Henry Yawit made it a one-goal game when he scored with 8:53 remaining. South iced the win with a goal from Tanner Congdon with 7:38 remaining.

South goalie Nathan Wright stopped 17 shots in the win, and Service goalie Nelson Carpentier stopped 23.

Eagle River 7, Chugiak 4

Eagle River scored five third-period goals Saturday, three of them coming from Carter Jesiel in a 7-4 win over Chugiak in a CIC boys game at the McDonald Center.

Jeseil's first goal tied the game at 3-3 eight seconds into the final period, but Chugiak reclaimed the lead on a goal from Zach Johanson. Jeseil tied the game back up at 4-4 with a goal near the midway point of the period, and South took the lead for good on a goal from Stephen Wescott with 6:27 remaining.

Quinn Hulse added an insurance goal for South with 6:10 remaining, and Jesiel's third goal was an empty-netter with 20 seconds remaining.
