ANNUAL FUR RONDY JURIED AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST SHOWCASES TALENT FROM AROUND THE STATE AND THE NATION

Results are in for the 77th Annual Fur Rendezvous Juried Amateur Photography Contest, held in the Mall at Sears. Entries were accepted in two divisions; junior and adult, in both black and white and color with nine different categories: Portrait, Scenic, Wildlife, Pets, Sports, Flowers, Creative, Fur Rondy and Unclassified. The Fur Rendezvous Photo contest is open to all amateur photographers taking photographs in and of Alaska between Jan. 1, 2011 and the entry deadline, which was Sunday, Feb. 5.

The competition was judged by professional photographers Dave Parkhurst of Alaska Naturally Inc., Frank Flavin of Flavin Photography and Didier Lindsey of Alaska Wildlife Images. Together they have a total of 97 years in Alaska photography and donated their time and experience to judge the contest. The criteria the judges used when making their selection were print quality, composition, clarity and sharpness. When applicable; impact, originality, and subject material matching the photo category were also considered.

The contest received 460 entries in the two divisions of Adult and Junior. Entries were mostly from Alaska photographers, but came from as far away as Florida. Judges selected 1st, 2nd, 3rd place and honorable mention. An additional 157 entries were selected for exhibition, so a total of 250 entries will be displayed. The public will be able to view the photos in the Mall at Sears, located at 600 E. Northern Lights Blvd., through Sunday, March 4.
