UAA gymnastics team finishes fourth

Despite a third-place finish in all-around from freshman Morgan Cook, the UAA gymnastics team struggled to a fourth-place finish Saturday at the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships in Davis, Calif.

Host University of California-Davis won the quad meet with 193.673 points, followed by Seattle Pacific (191.150), Air Force (189.125) and UAA (188.300.)

Cook's best event was the balance beam, where she posted a 9.75 on her way to a 38.075 all-around. The beam was not kind to the rest of the Seawolves -- three suffered falls in the event. The errors kept UAA shy of 190 points for the first time in four meets.

"Tonight we didn't have the consistency that we'd been showing in our recent performances," said UAA head coach Paul Stoklos in a press release. "Hopefully our younger gymnasts will take tonight's performance as a learning experience and be all the more prepared next time they are competing in a championship setting."

UAA's highest placing in a single event came from senior Kaelei Spoor, who tied for third in the floor exercise with a 9.875. Senior Shakea Sanders led the Seawolves on vault with a 9.65 and sophomore Emily Petersen led on bars with a 9.5.
