Police: Jealous woman stabbed boyfriend at Karluk Manor

A stabbing Saturday afternoon at Karluk Manor, a housing program for chronic street alcoholics near downtown Anchorage, was rooted in jealousy, Anchorage police said Sunday.

The victim is a 51-year-old man who lives at Karluk Manor. Police aren't releasing his name because he's a domestic violence victim, said police Lt. Dave Parker, spokesman for the Anchorage Police Department.

The victim's longtime girlfriend, Pauline Kobuk, 51, also lived there in a separate efficiency apartment, and was jealous because he was socializing with other women, Parker said. She also is known as Pauline Chiskok, he said. Parker wasn't sure if the other women lived there.

Kobuk was charged with first-degree assault and is being held on $20,000 bail, he said.

The man told police they had been drinking earlier, Parker said. The woman used a steak knife, police said. Other residents called building security to report the man was bleeding. The man is expected to recover.

Karluk Manor opened in December. Two residents have died already in apparent drinking-related deaths.

The program is controversial because residents are allowed to drink while they stay there. Backers say residents can better work to improve themselves when they are off the streets.
