Parker paces UAA track and field team

Cody Parker, a freshman from British Columbia, broke his own school record in the javelin and earned an automatic bid to the national championships with a performance Saturday that led the UAA track and field team at the Long Beach State Invitational in California.

Parker launched a throw of 215 feet, 4 inches to qualify for next month's NCAA Division II national championships in May.

Also setting school records for the Seawolves were Micah Johnson in men's pole vault (14 feet, 10 inches) and the women's 4x100 relay team of Dianne Chong, Kelsey Johnson, Haleigh Lloyd and Grace Morgan (48.0 seconds).

Two other runners notched times that meet the provisional qualifying standards for the national meet -- Alfred Kangogo in the men's 1,500 (3:46.43) and Elliott Bauer in the men's 400 hurdles (53.47). Susan Tanui improved upon her 5,000-meter provisional time by clocking 16:39.
