Alaska State Troopers are investigating the apparent shooting deaths of a man and a woman found in a Wasilla-area home early Saturday morning.
The case appears to be a murder-suicide, based on troopers' initial investigation, said trooper spokesman Tim DeSpain. "It appears as though the male took his own life, after he shot the female."
Troopers identified the dead man late Saturday as Tobias Siegel, 26. Investigators refused to publicly identify the woman, saying her family had not yet been notified.
At least four people were at the home at the time of the shooting, said Sgt. Michelyn Manrique of the Alaska Bureau of Investigation. Someone called 911 at 1:48 a.m. to report shots fired, she said.
Patrol troopers soon arrived at the home. Manrique declined to give the street address until the dead woman's identity has been released.
The residence is generally near the Sears store in Wasilla, she said. A trooper spokesman previously said the home was near Hyer Road between Wasilla and Palmer.
The man and woman were not married, Manrique said. She said investigators are still trying to learn the nature of their relationship.
Troopers suspect alcohol played a role in the shooting, she said. "They were partying. There were alcohol containers in the residence."
Investigators will know more when the state Medical Examiner's Office autopsies the bodies, DeSpain said.
