JUNEAU -- A state employee who oversees the Legislature's finances says it is still too early to determine the cost of the special session, but the early estimate is "up to $30,000 a day."
Jessica Geary, finance manager of the Legislative Affairs Agency, says the bulk of the expense is tied to personal services, travel and per diem.
Geary says she will be able to predict more accurately after it becomes clear how long the session will continue and how many personnel hours are likely to be logged.
Gov. Sean Parnell called lawmakers back to Juneau to address the state's oil tax structure, a potential in-state gas pipeline and a bill on human trafficking. The trafficking bill has already passed the House and Senate, but debate over the other issues remains ongoing.
