East 5, West 3 in girls soccer

East's Rochelle Jordan scored twice Saturday, helping the Thunderbirds battle to a 5-3 Cook Inlet Conference win over West in a girls soccer match at Dimond High.

Jordan's first goal gave East a 1-0 lead at halftime. Robin Hughes, Anna Woern and Grace Woern each added second-half goals for the Thunderbirds.

South 3, Chugiak 0

Katelynn Zanders scored two breakaway goals Saturday, sparking a 3-0 CIC girls soccer victory over host Chugiak at Tom Huffer Sr. Stadium.

Zanders' first strike came in the 38th minute, giving South a 1-0 lead at halftime. Madison Jungwirth put the Wolverines up 2-0 early in the second half when she struck on a 30-yard shot, and Zanders added her second goal in the 54th minute.

Morgan Hooe earned two assists and Keely Jelinek dished one.

Wasilla 12, Houston 0

Getting hat tricks from Teyonnah Williams and Alexa Abbott, the Wasilla girls soccer team blew away visiting Houston 12-0 Saturday.

Alexa Starr added two goals, with Josie Fletcher, Kaitlyn Butcher and Natalie Bailey each adding one. Sarah Schmidt earned the shutout in goal, helping Wasilla improve to 4-1.

Palmer 4, Homer 0

Palmer's four second-half goals powered a 4-0 home win over Homer in a girls soccer match Saturday.

Ellen Jorgensen, Kristin Van Hoomissen, Sierra Myers and Kendal Howe provided the goals and Palmer improved to 1-1-2. Homer fell to 0-3.
