Turner promoted to assistant coach
UAA didn't waste any time filling the vacancy on its men's basketball coaching staff -- the school Monday named Cameron Turner, a graduate assistant last season, as its new assistant coach.
Turner's promotion came on the first business day after previous assistant Ryan Orton resigned his post to become the head coach at Western Wyoming Community College.
"Cameron has proven to be a hard worker, and he has a good mind for the game,'' UAA head coach Rusty Osborne said in a press release. "We are very pleased we can promote from within.''
Turner, who is working on a masters degree in human services at UAA, joined the Seawolves program last season after a six-year run coaching the Willamette Reign AAU program in Oregon.
Turner graduated from Southern Oregon University in 2004.
Golf
18 greens open at AGC
Golfers are finished playing temporary greens at the Anchorage Golf Course, as 18 permanent greens opened for play Tuesday.
General manager Rich Sayers said this might be the earliest all 18 greens have been open.
"They're in phenomenal shape," he said.

Tanglewood Lakes open
Tanglewood Lakes, a nine-hole par-3 golf course, became the second golf course to open in Anchorage, opening for play last weekend.
Moose Run and Eagleglen are anticipated to open in another week or so.
