Anchorage police are looking for a 17-year-old girl they say ran away from the Alaska Military Youth Academy on Sunday.

The girl, Noelle Bell, walked away from the academy, located on Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, police said in a written statement. Academy staff reported Bell missing that same day, police spokeswoman Marlene Lammers said.

Bell's disappearance came after a visit by her parents, who had flown in from Nome, police said. They have since returned home, Lammers said. Bell has a sister who usually lives in Anchorage but is also now in Nome, the police spokeswoman said.

"She has absolutely no family here in Anchorage," Lammers said.

Bell did not take her medication, which she needs daily, said Lammers, who would not say what medication Bell needed.

Police described Bell as an Alaska Native about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 140 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes and was wearing a navy blue military uniform, police said.

Anyone with information on Bell's whereabouts is asked to call police at 786-8900.
