Juneau's Dylan Baker became the highest-drafted baseball player in Western Nevada College history this week when he was selected in the fifth round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Cleveland Indians.
"That's really exciting," Baker said in a press release. "That makes me proud to be the top pick out of Western Nevada. I was pretty much a nobody last year."
The 6-foot-3 right-hander put together the best season in WNC history as a sophomore last season, going 13-0 with a 1.91 ERA and striking out 126 in 84 2/3 innings.
Baker was nearly the highest-drafted player in Alaska history, coming in a round behind Anchorage's Brian Montalbo, who was selected in the fourth round by the Atlanta Braves in 2000.
