Worth noting

Left-hander Kyle Freeland and two relievers combined on a three-hitter Tuesday night to spearhead the Anchorage Glacier Pilots' 2-0 victory over the Mat-Su Miners at Mulcahy Stadium.

Freeland pitched seven shutout innings, allowed just two hits and struck out three. Right-hander Matt Munson worked the eighth and right-hander Travis Pitcher closed in the ninth to earn the save.

After Miners leadoff hitter Erik Harbutz reached on an error by Pilots shortstop Chris Mariscal to open the top of the ninth, Anchorage right fielder Jordan Luplow made a diving catch of Branden Berry's flare and doubled up Harbutz. Pitcher fanned P.J. Torres to end the game.

Mariscal furnished an RBI single in the fourth inning and Jeff Kremer delivered a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Glacier Pilots (4-9, 4-4 ABL) pulled with 1 1/2 games of the league-leading Peninsula Oilers. Last-place Mat-Su (5-7, 3-8 ABL) dropped four games behind the Oilers.

The Oilers split a non-league doubleheader with the Everett (Wash.) Merchants at Seymour Park in Kenai.

The Oilers used Jordan Hein's two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning to seize the opener, 4-2. But Everett, which wrapped a nine-game tour through the ABL with a 5-4 record, left on a winning note with a 3-1 victory in the seven-inning second game.

Everett right-hander Brooks Roy pitched a complete game, scattering six hits and striking out three.

In Fairbanks, the scheduled doubleheader between the Fairbanks Goldpanners and Chugiak-Eagle River Chinooks was rained out. The teams have scheduled another doubleheader for 3 p.m. today at Growden Park, with the regularly scheduled game between the teams today to be played near season's end when the Panners visit Chugiak.
