Coast Guard searches for overboard man

The Coast Guard was searching Wednesday for a fisherman who fell overboard near Mab Island, about 25 miles north of Juneau.

A crew member on the fishing vessel called the Coast Guard at about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday to report that another crew member had gone overboard while trying to remove gear from the vessel's propeller in an area south of Berners Bay, according to Petty Officer 3rd Class Jonathan Klingenberg. Weather conditions were fair at the time.

Coast Guard crews using a 25-foot boat and a MH-60 helicopter were searching for the man. He was reportedly wearing green rain gear and no flotation device, Klingenberg said.

The Coast Guard hasn't released the name of the missing fisherman or the name of the vessel.
