Sanders leads State Am by four

Greg Sanders gave himself a little breathing room Saturday at the Alaska State Amateur golf tournament at Settlers Bay Golf Course.

Sanders stretched his lead over defending champion David Hamilton to four following a 2-under-par 70 at the Knik course. That gives him a three-round total of 215 going into the final round today at Settlers Bay.

Hamilton, who trailed by one stroke after two rounds, shot at 73 Saturday for a 219 total.

For the first time in the tournament, Terri McAngus didn't fire the lowest women's score, but she still has a healthy lead over Rose Pelletier, whose 76 led the women Saturday.

McAngus, who shot 77, has a three-round total of 227, 10 strokes better than Pelletier's 237.

Saturday's best round was carded by Chad Isaacs, who fired a 68 to vault into sixth place. That came after rounds of 77 and 82 at the Moose Run Creek Course.

The tournament ends today, with the women's leaders teeing off at 8 a.m. and the men's leaders teeing off at 9:21 a.m.
