One person was killed in a three-vehicle wreck Wednesday afternoon on the Glenn Highway north of Palmer, according to Alaska State Troopers.

A call to 911 dispatchers about 1 p.m. reported the wreck at about Mile 64, said troopers spokeswoman Megan Peters.

"A car crossed the center line, hit a vehicle head on, and bounced off and hit another vehicle," Peters said.

The driver of the car that crossed into oncoming traffic was dead when paramedics arrived, Peters said. There were five people in the other two cars, and one suffered minor injuries, the troopers spokeswoman said.

At the crash scene, investigators had draped a piece of plastic over a smashed station wagon, which appeared to have collided with a pickup. A van could be seen in bushes off the roadway.

Troopers closed both lanes of the highway, but one lane was set to open about an hour after the collision, Peters said.

The wreck is under investigation, and names of those involved, including the dead driver, had not been released as of 4 p.m.
