Apparent homeless woman found dead

A 36-year-old woman was found dead outdoors in July, but there were no signs of violence or foul play, Anchorage police said Tuesday.

Sandra Lake, who had lived on the Anchorage streets, was found dead on July 22 outside of a building on West 36th Avenue, said police Lt. Dave Parker.

An autopsy found no signs of trauma, Parker said. Police are still waiting for a determination on her cause of death.

Parker said the death is being reported so long after the event because it did not come to his attention at the time, perhaps because Lake's body was found on a Sunday.

Last year, when she applied for a low-income fishing, hunting and trapping license, she gave as her address a drop-in center for people with mental health and substance abuse issues.
