Denali Park wolf expert found dead in his home

DENALI NATIONAL PARK -- One of North America's most acclaimed wolf experts has died.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner says Tom Meier was found dead in his home near Denali National Park on Tuesday. He was 61.

Friends went to check on him after he failed to show up for a wolf seminar at the park's Murie Science and Learning Center.

Meier was a leading researcher on the park's wolf packs. He helped write the 2003 classic "The Wolves of Denali," considered one of the most comprehensive studies of wolves for the general public.

The cause of death was not immediately known.
