South tops E. River in gymnastics

South's Tena Newhouse took first in bars, beam and floor exercise Thursday night at Chugiak High, winning the all-around competition and helping the Wolverines to a big win over Eagle River in the season's first Cook Inlet Conference gymnastics meet. The only event Newhouse didn't win was vault, in which teammate Katie Davenport took the top spot. Danica Barto was Eagle River's top gymnast, finishing third in the all-around on the strength of a third-place finish in beam and a fourth-place finish on the floor.
