Super Cub pilot hurt in Atigun Pass crash

A PA-18 Super Cub crashed at about 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Atigun Pass, injuring the pilot, investigators said.

The single-engine plane left Deadhorse on Sunday headed west toward Bettles, said Clint Johnson, an air safety investigator for the National Transportation Safety Board. Johnson did not know the name of the pilot, who was flown to Alaska Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Atigun Pass crosses the Brooks Range. Johnson could not name the precise location of the crash.

The Labor Day Weekend has been a busy one for crash investigators. A pilot died Friday when a floatplane struck power lines across Kachemak Bay, according to Alaska State Troopers. A private pilot suffered minor injuries Sunday when he crashed on takeoff from Willow Lake, troopers say.
