A 19-year-old killed by her hunting partner this week at a lake off the Alaska Highway lived a few miles up the highway in Dot Lake, Alaska State Troopers said Thursday.
The young woman, identified as Tarsicia Heath, died Tuesday afternoon when her fellow moose hunter shot her with a high-powered rifle at Jan Lake, troopers said. The man, who has not been named or charged with any crime, said he fired by accident, a troopers spokeswoman said.
Paramedics from Tok, about 45 minutes away, declared Heath dead.
Trooper investigators have not disclosed certain details of the shooting, including whether the man thought he was shooting at a moose or inadvertently hit the gun's trigger.
The investigation continues, troopers said.
