Saturday will be deja vu day at UAA's SpringHill Invitational volleyball tournament.

The Seawolves and Western New Mexico both won two matches during round-robin play Friday to advance to Saturday's championship match, meaning they will play each other twice Saturday. The teams meet first in a round-robin match at 11 a.m. and again in the 7 p.m. title match.

Also seeing double will be Dixie State and Adelphi, which both lost two matches Friday to fall into Saturday's consolation match. They'll also meet in a round-robin game right before the consolation match.

Freshman Katelynn Zanders posted double-figure kills in two matches for the Seawolves, who opened the tournament with a sometimes tense four-set victory over Dixie State of Utah and then cruised to a three-set win over Adelphi University of New York.

The young UAA squad won its first match thanks in large part to the performance of the only senior to see action.

With just two seniors on the roster and one of them on the bench with a sprained ankle, the Seawolves turned back Dixie State 24-26, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 at the Wells Fargo Sports Complex.

Kimya Jafroudi shined as both a setter and a server in the afternoon victory. The senior from Huntington Beach, Calif., racked up 41 assists while running an offense dependent on players straight out of high school and served a career-high six aces.

The Seawolves played without their other senior, outside hitter Nikkie Viotto of Eagle River. Viotto has been the team's iron man, never missing a set in her first three seasons, but an ankle injury shelved her Friday and made a very young team even younger.

Zanders and fellow freshman Julia Mackey of Fairbanks came through against Dixie State with 17 and 15 kills, respectively, and freshman Sarah Johnson of Anchorage contributed eight kills, 11 digs, three blocks and three aces. Siobhan Johansen of Palmer, a junior libero, came up with a match-high 15 digs.

The Seawolves were tested by the Red Storm, who won the first set and threatened to take the second and fourth sets.

Up 17-11 in the second set, UAA squandered the lead and fell behind 22-21 after an attack error by Zanders. The South High grad redeemed herself by scoring two quick points, the first on a kill and the second on a block with freshman Breanne Sytnyk of Shoal Lake, Manitoba. A kill by Mackey made it 24-22 and another kill by Zanders gave UAA the set.

The Seawolves led the fourth set 13-9 but Dixie State charged back to lead 22-21. UAA avoided a fifth set thanks to two booming kills by Mackey that accounted for the final two points of the match.

UAA dominated Adelphi in Friday's final match behind 12 kills from Zanders, who helped the Seawolves outhit Adelphi .232 to .042, and 13 digs from Mackey, who helped them outdig the Panthers 52-29. Jafroudi dished 30 assists, served three aces and added eight digs.

In the day's other matches, Western New Mexico romped past Dixie State 25-18, 25-22, 25-17 and held off Adelphi 25-14, 25-20, 21-25, 25-13.

Western New Mexico outside hitter Angelina Pulu emerged as one of the tournament's dominant players. She tallied 16 kills and eight digs against Adelphi and 16 kills and 19 digs against Dixie State.
