Suspects flip over sports car

Authorities are offering a reward for information about an unusual crime reported this summer: They believe a group of people picked up a sports car and flipped it on its roof.

The Fairbanks Daily News-Miner reports that during the early hours of July 22, someone reported hearing a loud noise in the driveway where he had parked a 1991 Mazda Miata.

He came outside to find the Miata flipped on its top, doing about $6,500 in damage.

Fairbanks Police Lt. Dan Welborn said a group rather than an individual likely is responsible because of the physical work required to flip a car.

He says he could not ever recall hearing of another car flipping case in Fairbanks.
