Eagle River flag football team drops West in OT

Eagle River 6, West 0, OT

Thanks to a short touchdown run from Lauren Frost and a game-sealing interception by Skylar Metzel, Eagle River pulled out a 6-0 overtime flag football win against West in a CIC game Tuesday at Anchorage Football Stadium.

Each team receives four downs from the 10-yard line in overtime, and Eagle River took first possession. Frost scored on a 5-yard run on fourth down, and Metzel ended West's possession on second down when she made her second interception.

Scout Warners also added an interception for the Wolves, whose defense held West to 23 rushing yards on 15 carries. Gaby Mordini compiled 110 yards of offense for the Wolves, rushing for 60 and making two receptions for 50.

Mimi Troxel led West's defense with nine pulls, with Anna Sophia Roberts and Morgan Heppner each adding five.

South 24, East 6

South's Sierra Mains threw four touchdown passes Tuesday and Sabrina Ungaro caught three of them in a 24-6 Cook Inlet Conference flag football win over East at Anchorage Football Stadium.

Mains connected with Ungaro on a 20-yard touchdown pass to put the Wolverines on the board in the first quarter. The duo also connected on a 75-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter and a 45-yarder in the fourth.

Julia Carmack hauled in Mains' fourth scoring toss, a 12-yard reception.

Service 14, Bartlett 6

Stephanie Compton threw two touchdown passes Tuesday to lead the Service flag football team to a come-from-behind CIC win at home against Bartlett.

Bartlett took a 6-0 lead early, but Service evened the score with a 60-yard pass from Compton to Hayleigh Van Allen with 30 seconds left in the first half.

Zoey Bailey, who finished with 57 yards on seven receptions, caught a second-half touchdown from Compton, who finished with 171 passing yards. Emily Haas led the Service defense with nine pulls, with Shannon Wilson adding five pulls and two interceptions.

Dimond 20, Chugiak 13

Dimond remained undefeated Tuesday, beating Chugiak 20-13 in a CIC flag football game at Dimond Alumni Field.

Dimond's Vanessa Tufaga scored on touchdown runs of 70 and 3 yards on her way to 116 rushing yards. Gabby Coleman scored Dimond's third touchdown on an interception return from beyond midfield. Whitney Jackson led the Dimond defense with four pulls and an interception, and Brittany Bagsby also made an interception.

Holly Brehmer score both of Chugiak's touchdowns, crossing the goal line on runs of 86 and 66 yards.

Volleyball

South 3, East 0

Getting 20 assists and four aces from Kayla Simms, South cruised to a 25-8, 25-16, 25-8 Cook Inlet Conference volleyball victory over East on Tuesday night at South High.

South's Mikayla Sweet struck for 10 kills and five aces, and Caitlin Sweeney racked eight kills.

Dimond 3, West 0

Aaliyah Lewis' 29 digs lifted the Dimond volleyball team to a 25-16, 25-12, 25-22 sweep of host West in a CIC match Tuesday.

Sierra Afoa led the Lynx attack with eight kills and Anastasia Tosi dished 16 assists.

Nicole Meyers led West with 27 assists, Rita Dexter scored seven kills and Nya Carter recorded six digs.

Chugiak 3, Service 2

Rachel Greg's 19 kills and three blocks propelled Chugiak to a 25-23, 25-17, 17-25, 17-25, 15-7 win over Service in a CIC volleyball match at Service High on Tuesday.

Kirsten Veech added nine kills for the Mustangs, and Erin Hess led Service with 58 assists. Tayleigh Talmage chipped in eight kills for the Cougars, and Genny Boots and Brianna Toomer each made nine.

Grace 3, ACS 0

Grace Christian swept Anchorage Christian in a high school volleyball match at ACS on Tuesday, winning 25-20, 25-14, 25-15.

Heather Green led the Grizzlies with 11 kills, with Nicole Weisenfelder notching 10 kills and seven aces.

Dimond 6 East 3

Dimond won three singles matches and three doubles matches Tuesday and beat visiting East 6-3 in a Cook Inlet Conference tennis meet.

Cole Fox and Kyle Stone swept the boys singles matches for the Lynx, both winning in straight sets.
