Man charged with attempted child molestation at movie

Anchorage police have arrested a man accused of sliding naked under a bathroom stall divider at a movie theater in an alleged attempt to molest a boy last month.

Marlon Pajarillo, 22, was charged Monday with first-degree attempted sexual abuse of a minor in the Aug. 28 incident at Totem Theaters. Pajarillo may have had other victims, police said.

According to the charges against Pajarillo, a 10-year-old boy was inside a bathroom stall in the men's room at the East Anchorage movie theater when he heard a man he didn't know, who was in the stall next to his, say, "Are you ready for this?"

The man, later identified as Pajarillo, slid under the stall divider and tried to grab the boy's legs, the charges say. Pajarillo wasn't wearing pants or underwear and kept saying, "Come on, let's do this!" the boy later told police.

The boy screamed, ran out of the bathroom and told a movie theater employee what had happened. Pajarillo came out and told them he'd made a mistake, according to the charges.

A detective later interviewed Pajarillo, who said he had planned a sexual encounter in the bathroom with another man he'd met through a personal ad on Craigslist, the charges say.

Pajarillo assumed the person in the stall next to him was the man, but, he admitted, he got a vague response from someone who sounded much younger than 18 when he asked if the person was ready, he told the detective.

But Pajarillo said he took off his clothes and went under the stall divider anyway, according to the charging document.

Pajarillo also admitted to having viewed child pornography in the past and said he had hoped the boy would have a sexual encounter with him, the charges say.

Pajarillo was arrested about 5 p.m. Monday and held on $10,000 cash bail, which he posted shortly after arriving at jail, police said.

Because of other evidence police did not disclose, and the way Pajarillo approached the boy, detectives think he may have had other victims. Police are asking anyone with information about the movie theater case or other potential incidents with Pajarillo and children call Detective Lenny Torres at 786-8573.
